WEEKLY ENCOURAGEMENT

Glowing in the Dark
Last week I mentioned the famous Hope diamond. I want to refer to it again this week because it possesses an unusual characteristic. In 2003, the Hope was taken to a museum laboratory for testing. They focused an ultraviolet beam on the stone. Then turned off the beam and, in pitch dark, the diamond glowed bright orange-amber. This strong color that lasted for several seconds intrigues scientists. What causes the gem to glow in the dark remains a mystery.
Did you know we have this unusual characteristic in common with the Hope diamond? The world system around is full of spiritual darkness and Jesus told us we are to shine as lights in this darkness. "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." -Matthew 5:14. Sometimes we do not feel like shining and beside, what difference will our small light make?
When disappointment, trials and tragedy come into our lives it is exactly the prime opportunity for us to glow in the dark. We know that our Lord is in control and His promise in Romans 8:28, is true. We know it is true because He can not lie and we can trust Him explicitly. Therefore based on the attributes of God, not on our feelings, and by drawing on the power of His indwelling Holy Spirit, we can shine forth His light in this world of darkness. The difference it makes is entirely up to Him. Our responsibility is to glow.
Scientists are fascinated and intrigued with the "glowing ability" of the Hope diamond because they can not explain it. In like manner, the lost world around us will be intrigued when we radiate peace and confidence in spite of the difficulties we are going through. "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord; walk as children of light." -Ephesians 5:8 The believer's ability to have joy and peace in the midst of great trial and loss has always baffled the unsaved. It causes them to question "how" which in turn opens the door for us to share the amazing truth of the Gospel.
Let us take a new look at our difficulties and trails and check up on our glowing ability. Instead of moaning, complaining and falling into despair over them, let us determine by God's grace to so glow in the darkness around us, that the lost will be intrigued and fascinated. Truly we are "..fearfully and wonderfully made.."! -Psalm 139:14 I wish each of you, my fellow diamonds a glowing week.
POINT TO PONDER:Are you drawing on His power in your trial? Is your desire to "glow"
for Him or to just get out of the difficulty?
