WEEKLY ENCOURAGEMENT

Call in the cavalry
When you or your family is in a crisis, what do you want the most? I'm sure we want the Lord's help and blessings, but we also desire the prayers of other believers on our behalf.
Family severely burned in fire, church split by unforgiving members, young pastor's wife loses first baby, pastor killed in freak accident, and Bible school students killed by drunk driver. All of these and countless other tragedies happen to the Lord's children. We have trouble grasping the reality of such experiences and can not even begin to have an answer as to why they happen. But one thing is certain. In every case and in many that are less drastic, we need prayer and the comfort and strength it provides.
When my husband and I have experienced major health issues or problems in our church, I quickly notify our praying friends. Do you remember the old western movies? Every time the good guy was caught in an impossible situation between the bad guys, the cavalry would show up just in the nick of time. I think of the people who pray for me as my spiritual cavalry.
Sometimes, we are in a spiritual battle or an emotional one and need prayer support, but allow our pride to keep us from letting others know. This is exactly what our enemy desires and will only lead to defeat.
Sisters in Christ, we have a wonderful privilege and power available to us. It is intercessory prayer. We can not solve the problems, heal the sick, relieve the suffering or put churches back together, but we can take the needs to our Lord, God Almighty with whom nothing is impossible. He is faithful and just and has promised to answer.
We dare not be neglectful, or limit what our Lord can do. He loves doing the impossible, and in fact, it is His specialty. I want to encourage each of us to be more diligent in praying for one another. If we do not care and support each other, who is going to? The world only wants to destroy us.
The Bible tells us to pray for one another and to bring all our cares and burdens to the Lord. May we not see prayer as a job or a burden, but rather as a wonderful privilege. It is a way of actively loving one another.
I know many of you are going through trials and suffering and are in need of prayer support. We hope to soon have a place on this web-site to place prayers requests. Until this is accomplished, any one who wishes my prayer support can e-mail me at sandy.hastings@gmx.de and I will pray for you. Take the time to ask praying friends for their support. Do not yield to the enemy in isolation. The following poem is dedicated to every one who reads this devotion.
"When you are hurting, COME TO ME and I will bind your wounds.POINT TO PONDER:
When you need to be assured, COME TO ME and I will give you my embrace.
When you can no longer go on, COME TO ME and I will carry you.
When you need comfort, COME TO ME and I will wipe your tears.
When you are uncertain of My love, COME TO ME and I will speak My heart to you.
Always remember that in your need you are coming to the One who came for you."
