LITTLE THINGS
Have you ever felt small and insignificant? Have you ever wondered if you are really making any difference at all? Perhaps you have even wondered if the Lord really notices and cares about you and your situation. In times past, I have felt insignificant and felt that my life was making little or no difference. This view of our lives comes because we lose sight of how the Lord views things. Let us consider some Bible examples.
The Gospel of Mark tells us about Jesus being in the temple and watching the people cast money into the treasury. (Mark 12:41-42) It tells us that Jesus took notice of the small two mites that a widow lady gave. Now this widow woman was not a major person in the whole scheme of things nor was a mite enough money for most people to take notice of. Yet Jesus did take notice of the widow woman and of exactly how much she gave. In fact He had it recorded in Scripture for you and I to read.
The Gospel of Matthew gives us two amazing examples of how much our Lord takes note of little things. In chapter 10 verse 29 Jesus said that not one single sparrow falls to the ground without the Father knowing it. Think about that! I am sure there are millions of sparrows in this world, and they are small birds. In man's estimation, they are not anything special and do not call for special attention. Yet the God of heaven takes notice of every single one that falls.
In verse 30 of the same chapter, Jesus says that even the very hairs on our head are numbered. I can not imagine how many hairs that must be. The point for us to notice here is that NOTHING is so small that God does not take notice of it. In verse 31, Jesus says, "Fear not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."
Satan would like to make us believe that we are insignificant and that we are not important enough for the God of the universe to notice, but that is a lie!! I want to remind both you and myself that our Lord takes notice of every detail in our lives. He knows every thought, heartache, trial, disappointment, need, dream or desire of our hearts. What is even more wonderful, He loves us and cares about all these details. Jesus leaves nothing to chance in our lives nor does He ever leave us alone. He is always right there with us.
What makes us significant is that we are His vessels to be used for His glory. How or where He uses us is His choice and actually irrelevant. No one is too small, to hidden or too unimportant. One vessel is not more important or more notice by the Lord than another. Obedience is the important factor.
We become discouraged when we focus on ourselves and our estimation of things. The problem with that is that we are extremely limited in our knowledge and wisdom. We can not see the big picture, the future or what God is accomplishing with our lives. The conclusion is, you and I are important to our Lord. He is aware of every detail and our focus needs to be on Him. Instead of spending our energy on thinking about ourselves, let us concentrate on His word and His faithfulness. He will take care of the rest. May each of you have a day full of hope, and joy grounded in the reality of God's love and care for you.
"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with thee."
