The Present
It has been said that today is a gift and that is why it is called the present. This is an excellent attitude for us to take into every new day. This gift is not given to us by chance, but rather is a gift prepared by Almighty God. We will have it for 24 hours and no longer. It is a gift full of potential. It may hold opportunities to share the Gospel with someone unsaved; to encourage a heart that is bowed down with despair; to experience the reality of answered prayer; to feel God's tender comfort and help when the pain seems unbearable and our loss overwhelming. It is "the day that the Lord has made:" Psalm 118:24 It is a gift of life! If you are tempted to wish it away, remember there are a lot of people that wish they had the gift of today!
Regardless of what this day may bring to you, it is important to remember that God has promised as thy days are, so shall thy strength be. You may quickly answer, "But I am tired and weary and feel I can not go on or can not face what this day holds." Our Lord knows all about our weaknesses. "For he knoweth our frame: he remembereth that we are dust." Psalm 103:14 Those very weaknesses are the opportunities to experience the Lord's amazing help and grace on our behalf. Today is amazing, God planned training for tomorrow.
The two days that weigh so heavily on us are yesterday with its regrets and pain and tomorrow with all of it's uncertainties that fill us with dread and fear. How foolish we are to let these days destroy the peace and power of today. There is absolutely no way for us to change any thing that we thought, said or did yesterday. It is a closed page. Those 24 hours are gone never to return. The Bible says we are foolish to boost of tomorrow because we are given no promise that tomorrow with ever come for us. "Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 So, that leaves us with today, the present, God's gift.
As you think about the thoughts presented here, how will you handle this gift that God has put into your hands? It is also the opportunity to show your Lord how much you trust and love Him. Have you told Him that you love Him today? May each of us accept what our Lord has planned for this day and with His strength and wisdom live it in such a way that He will have joy and pleasure from our lives.
"This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24
ENJOY YOUR GIFT!
