Sunshine in spite of the Clouds
Today I had to do some errands and the sky was covered with dark, threatening clouds. Since I am a person that prefers sunshine, it was not my kind of weather. However, the truth is the sun was shinning. The clouds may have hid it from view, but they do not extinguish it.
We enjoy the periods in our life when we sense or feel the Lords presence, when we can see His working all around us. Our faith is strong and the darts of doubt from our enemy cause little damage. But what happens when the clouds roll in? How is our faith when the sky is dark and foreboding and the lightening streaks across the sky? Are we as sure of our Lords presence when our husband loses his job, one of our children is seriously ill, our best friend turns her back on us or a split tears our church family apart?
We can be just as confident in the Lords presence and His care in the storms as in the sunshine. The key is our faith. Hebrews tells us, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is simply taking God at His word regardless of circumstances, reasoning or the opinions of others. Fear views God through the circumstances; faith views the circumstances through God.
Nothing that comes into our lives can more our Lord out! If we allow our emotions to direct our spiritual life, then the enemy is going to have a marvelous time wreaking havoc with us. As the Lord's calendar moves forward, Satan is given more freedom and living for our Lord is going to get harder. Therefore it is vital that we fix our spiritual eyes on the Son, regardless of the clouds, in confidence that our Lord will keep His word. Do not doubt in the dark what you know in the light.
Remember we that are born-again, are in Christ and He is the ark regardless of how fierce the storm may rage or the flood water rise we are safe. This quote from George Mueller has always been an inspiration to me. I hope it will bless you too. My eye is not on the density of the fog, but on the living God, who controls every circumstance of my life."
POINT TO PONDER:Where are your eyes focused today, on the Son or on the clouds?
How much do you allow your emotions to influence your faith?
