WEEKLY ENCOURAGEMENT
Updated: Tuesday, May 20, 2008

There have been countless numbers of romantic songs and poems written about moonlight. However, the truth is that the moon has no light - that is, no light of its own. The light we see is the reflection of the sun. So, the reality is, moonlight is really reflected sunlight.

Take that picture and apply it to yourself. We have no "light" of ourselves. In the Bible, spiritual darkness is always a picture of sin; of a life and a walk without God.

Jesus is the true light. He is the power source of spiritual light. "This is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:5

Sometimes we can become so occupied with being spiritual and bringing about our own holiness that we totally forget we are like the moon. We have no light. To reflect God's holiness and His life through us, we have to be in close fellowship to Him. We have to spent time in His presence. Remember what happened to Moses when he had spent time in close fellowship with God?

"And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him." Exodus 34:29

When we spent time with our Lord today, our face may not shine, but our soul will. Our life will reflect His life through us.

David said, "For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness." Psalm 18:28 The Christian walk is not really about a list of do's and don'ts. It is about submissive obedience. As we yield ourselves to Him, His Holy Spirit will work in and through us to accomplish His purposes and to bring glory to Him. We will reflect Christ.

"Ye are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:14, 16

We have a wonderful privilege. God has chosen to use us, born-again believers, to bring His light into a dark and lonely world. "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light." Ephesians 5:8

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

What do those around you see reflected through you, darkness or light?
