SOMEDAY....

"I hope someday, to really do something for the Lord!." I have heard this statement many times from young adults, and some older folks. They seem to think that "something" is always down the road from where they are now. They are waiting from some future situation or opportunity to accomplish something important or meaningful for the Lord.

I am not sure where this idea originates but it is definitely not from God's word. His purpose for us from the minute we are saved until the day He takes us home is to give Him glory and pleasure.

"Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for MY GLORY, I have formed him; yea I have made him." Isaiah 43:7
"...all things were created by him, and FOR HIM:" Colossians 1:16,
"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for THY PLEASURE they are and were created." Revelation 4:11

Looking for some special opportunity in the future to please our Lord can cause us to miss the opportunities He gives us today! …and we may have only today!

If God's will is for me to bring Him glory and pleasure, then that very goal should be the center of my day. What pleases God? According to Hebrews 13:16, doing good for others and being hospitable is what pleases Him.

Romans 8:8 states that those who allow their human, fallen nature to control their lives cannot please Him. Therefore, living in obedience and in the power of the Holy Spirit is pleasing to Him.

Psalm 147:11 tells God takes pleasure in us when we fear Him and trust Him. The fear spoken of here is that of reverential respect for who He is. It brings with it an awareness of our weakness and dependence upon Him, our Lord and God.

The three actions described above are things we can and should be doing everyday! They are the reality of a disciplined life. Obedience in these three areas will result in a life that God will use NOW. We have no idea the wonderful, miraculous things He will do with such a life! (By the way "those things" are totally His business too!)

Instead of picturing some great, sacrificial, dramatic event for God in the future, bring Him pleasure and glory today by living in obedience and trusting Him in the very circumstances He has arranged for you today.

"Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."
Psalms 37:4-5

POINT TO PONDER:

Whose pleasure are you really seeking---His or your own? Are you a disciple?
