CONSIDER THE MOON

This last week, my husband and I enjoyed 4 days of vacation on the coast of Holland in a small town called Vlissingen. It was wonderful! No phone, (my husband even forgot his cell phone) no commitments, no responsibilities. We even ate off paper plates. It was so nice to sleep in until I wanted to get up, and then sit out on the patio and just soak up the sun, listen to the birds and breathe in the clean salt air! Make you want to go on vacation? Ha!

One morning we walked along the beach and I waded out a little into the water. As I looked out over the vast ocean, I tried to picture the Lord walking across it. Listening to the roar of the waves and feeling the sand as it was washed out from under my feet, I thought about the fact that they obey the voice of the Lord.

"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." Luke 4:39

And then I thought about how the moon controls the tide. Have you ever thought about the moon? I did a little research. The moon is approx. 238,900 miles from the earth, and it orbits the earth at a speed of 2,300 miles an hour. That information alone is amazing, but now listen to this. It is the moon's gravitational pull (from 238,900 miles away) on the earth that causes the high and low tides of our oceans. Scientists say the moon's rotation is SYNCHRONIZED in a way that causes the moon to show the same face to the earth at all times. Now stop for a minute and think about that.

The word "synchronized", according to Webster's Dictionary, means 'to agree in time and rate'. Isn't that a wonderful picture of the designer and creator of the universe!! Ever detail of creation has been carefully planned, even the moon.

With that in mind, are we not foolish to worry and fret and fear that God isn't able to help in our situations? I am convinced that we often fail to consciously remember how powerful and sovereign our God is. God has provided us with the beauties and wonders of nature to remind us of Him. Tonight, take a good look at the moon and thank God for His glory and goodness.

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork." Psalms 19:1

POINT TO PONDER:

How long has it been since you just considered the wonder of our world and the God who made it? Is He your Lord and Savior?
