WEEKLY ENCOURAGEMENT
Updated: Tuesday, April 8, 2008

"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." Psalms 5:3

Let me share with you this verse in german (translated into english). "Lord in the early morning you will hear my voice; in the early morning I will stand ready to do thy bidding (or your command) and will be watching and expecting."

A soldier stands ready to carry out the orders of his commander without question. A servant stands ready to do the bidding of his master, without argument. The soldier and the servant realize their position is to obey. They are to carry out the orders of the one in charge. They are not in charge. It is not their buisness to discuss the orders given, to consider weather they agree or if they are in the mood to do what they have been told.

I wonder if we stand early every morning, ready and willing to do the bidding of our heavenly Father. Do we start our day by getting in tune with Him and listening, expecting to hear his orders for our day? Do we realize it is His day to plan for us?

I am afraid I will have to admitt that there have been many days that I already had my day planned, and only asked God to bless what I had planned to do. Have you ever found yourself guilty of this?

It is interesting that in the military, orders are expected to be carried out immediately. There are some examples of immedient obediance in the Bible for us to see.

When Jesus called Peter and Andrew, Mark 1:8 says, "And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him." After Peter's mother-in-law was hearled, scripture says in Luke 4:39, "...and immediately she arose and ministered unto them." After Paul and Silas had the vision of Macedonian, "...immediately we endevoured to go into Macedonia..." Acts 16:10. True obedience is doing what the Lord instructs us to do now. If I ask my son to take out the trash today, and he says o.k., but days go by and he does not do what I have asked, than I consider that disobedience. It didn't matter what he said, the reality is, he did not obey. God expects, and is worthy of our immediate obedience.

The other thought I want to present to you, is when do you look to Him? Is it early in the mornig, before the business of the day has moved in? What are you looking for? Do we really "look for, or expect" His leadership, His wisdom, His help? Do we look for Him?

Do we really look forward to fellowship with Him personally, or only what we want Him to do for us?
I encourage you to pray as David did, "Lord hear my voice early in the morning; in the morning I will stand ready to do thy bidding and be watching and expecting?

THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Are you looking and expecting His coming? Are you ready if today is the day?
